De Anza and Foothill College have designated “Course Families” that include related or similar courses from both colleges. You may not enroll more than six times within a family of courses, whether they are offered at De Anza or Foothill. A normal class load will be 12-17 units. New students may not exceed a maximum of 21.5 units during their first quarter of enrollment at De Anza without the approval of the dean of Counseling. Continuing students may enroll in excess of 21.5 units (including physical education and labs) if they have met the following conditions:
Certain courses designated as Special Education under criteria set by state law. Since 2013, all “active participatory” courses have been designated as non-repeatable. There is also a limit of six enrollments per student in “active participatory” courses that are related in content.
De Anza without the approval of the dean of Counseling. Continuing students may enroll in excess of 21.5 units (including physical education and labs) if they have met the following conditions: Completed the preceding quarter with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Courses at De Anza have a designated maximum number of times they may be taken for credit. Unless it is specified that one can retake a course more than once, the general rule in most courses is that you may re-enroll and repeat only those courses in which you receive a grade of “D” or “F.”
Per Title 5 regulations, the student can only repeat the course twice (thus can only take the course three times). (2) When a student repeats a course to alleviate substandard academic work, the previous grade and credit will be disregarded in the computation of the grade point average.
Students in most programs can repeat a passed or failed course twice for degree or certificate credit, to a maximum of three attempts per course. Although the previous attempts remain on your academic record, only the most recent attempt counts toward your credit totals and grade point averages.
Retaking a course may raise your student's GPA (grade point average). In many schools, if a student retakes a course, the most recent grade will replace the lower grade in the student's GPA. The earlier, lower grade will remain on the transcript, but will not be included in the GPA.
College students can retake a class a maximum of 3 times, most of the time. If they want to retake it a fourth time, they have to write a special letter to the school. It might not be worth it to redo a class so many times, as you would graduate late.
The Consequences of Failing a Class A failing grade will likely hurt your GPA (unless you took the course pass/fail), which could jeopardize your financial aid. The failure will end up on your college transcripts and could hurt your chances of getting into graduate school or graduating when you originally planned to.
It depends on how many quality points they earn for each grade. If the D is in a 1-credit-hour course, the student will earn a 3.76 GPA. If the A is in a 1-credit-hour course, they will earn a 3.3 GPA. Same grades, same total number of credit hours, but different weights based on the credit hours of the course.
The fail grade will remain on your academic transcript and is included in your GPA calculation.
Repeat & Retake of Course(s) A student obtaining “F” grade in any course in any Trimester will have to “Repeat” the course with full payment of tuition fee for that particular course. Students desiring to improve their grade(s) may again take up course(s) which are termed as “Retake”.
The second grade always replaces the first grade. However, you can retake a class and get a worse grade. For example, if you have a D (a passing grade) and retake a course and receive an F (a failing grade), you now have a failing grade in the course and will have to take the class for a third time.
Even if you do fail, you can retake the class and ask for help. Although it will negatively impact your GPA and could affect your financial obligations, you can bounce back. Start by asking for more help and studying differently or harder if you retake the course. Most importantly, don't give up.
If you fail a class and retake it two or more times: Only one grade (the lowest) is removed from GPA calculations. All other repeats are used in calculating the GPA. All grades will still show on your transcript - even the excluded grade.
During summer sessions, students may enroll in a maximum of 15 units including physical education classes and labs associated with courses. To exceed the 15-unit limit, students must meet with a counselor after classes have started to complete the special petition form.

If both classes are not completed, students must enroll in ESL 255 in the fall. Students at the 260 level must complete both 262 and 263 before fall 2021.
ESL 5 is transferable to the California State University (Area A2-Written Communication) and meets the General Education requirement for AA and AS degrees (Area A1-English Composition). It will be transferable to the University of California (IGETC Area A1-English Composition) beginning in Fall Quarter 2021.
These changes will take effect in fall 2021.
For example, the noncredit version of ESL 244 will be numbered as ESL 444, and so on. Because these courses do not provide any units of academic credit, there are no limits on how many times you can repeat them. You can also earn a noncredit certificate of completion by taking a series of these courses.
A: No, most first-time students are faced with the same issues when starting college. Peak times for classes are 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. De Anza offers independent studies and classes during the evening to assist our students.
A: De Anza has new policies for assessment and placement, and most students who went to high school in the United States don't need to take a placement test. Some students may still need to be assessed for English as a Second Language. You can learn more by visiting the Assessment Center webpage.
Students may not enroll in the same course more than three times . If you receive two W's, two substandard grades, or a combination thereof, the enrollment system will block you from enrolling again. You will need to request an "override" from the Admissions Office to register in the course again.
If you've completed prerequisite coursework at another college, submit a Prerequisite Clearance Request at least two weeks before your date to register.
Drop a Class (If You Need To) You are responsible for dropping courses that you choose to no longer attend. Check the Academic Calendar for the deadline to drop classes for refunds and the deadline to drop for a W (withdrawn) grade. Drops with a W will count toward the maximum number of times you can repeat a course.

So, apparently, I'm in group six registration... I'm an upcoming first-year student that's going to graduate high school next month. My friends' and I took classes at Evergreen Valley College in high school, and they got group four registration. We literally put the same exact stuff on our application too.

Hi i am an incoming freshman and i want to take a class in CAD but don’t think its required to take it however I feel like this will only benefit my knowledge about civil engineering and also may look good on my transfer app.
I've been researching colleges and DA seems to be the better colleges in CCC system for CS.
If you no longer plan to complete the course, and would like to be eligible to take the course again, you must drop the class by the deadline to drop without penalty (registration deadlines can be found in your class schedule in your MyPortal account ).
Unless exceptions are specifically indicated in course descriptions in the current Foothill College Course Catalog, state regulations prohibit students from repeating a course they have completed successfully with a grade of C or better.
