Students may repeat an individual course only once for grade forgiveness. Students must repeat the same class for grade forgiveness. If the class is no longer offered at CSULB, students must ask their department to approve a substitution using the Petition for Exception to Academic Policy.

Grades Averaged is used when the maximum 16 units have already been used for Grade Forgiveness. If the student needs to take a course for a third time, and the appeal is granted, all three of the grades will be averaged.

How does academic technology work in a class?

Some classes use academic technology to replace part or all of the face-to-face class meetings. In a hybrid class, one-third to two-thirds of the student/faculty and student/student contact time uses academic technology to structure remote activities. A Local Online Class is a course offering in which the majority of the instruction occurs when the student and instructor are not in the same place, but it may require up to two hours of face-to-face meetings per unit on the California State University, Long Beach campus within the given semester. What is considered a full time student in California?

1.1 A student pursuing a baccalaureate degree or a credential program carrying 12 or more units during the fall or spring semester is classified as a full-time student. If for any reason, a course cannot be delivered online, then the course may be cancelled.

Do all classes have waitlists?

All scheduled class sections have waitlists. The size of the waitlist is based on size of the class. You can place yourself on the waitlist provided the list is not already full. If a seat becomes available, the student highest on the waitlist will get the seat (subject to the limitations below).
