What does Web fully online instruction mean CSUF?

Class Note #1744

Fully Online Instruction: Courses in which 100% of course meeting time occurs in an online environment. These courses can include a variety of synchronous and asynchronous activities.

How do I access my online classes at CSUF?

Once enrolled, watch for a letter or email from the host campus telling you how to log into their student portal and access the online class. In about 24 hours, you will see a "placeholder" class in your CSUN schedule. From the drop-down menu, select Student Center and then click the "go" button.

How do you cancel a proposal in Curriculog?

The delete icon is always available for unlaunched proposals. If the proposal has been launched, you may be able to cancel it by selecting it as a decision if the administrator has provided it as an option - or by contacting your administrator.

How does CSU online work?

What is CSU Fully Online? CSU Fully Online is a concurrent enrollment program that allows CSU students to take one online course at another CSU campus during the fall or spring semester along with coursework at their home CSU campus. The additional units through CSU Fully Online are included in the full-time tuition.

Fully Online (OF) is an online course in which all class sessions and exams are presented in an online environment. If a course meets at a specified time online, the course should list the day of the week and time in the Schedule of Classes. Fully online courses have no on campus meetings.

Approval Process

Requests to offer an entire course online, or one or more sections online, requires the submission via Curriculog to the H&SS Curriculum Committee of a Course Change Form and a 16-week syllabus, after reviewing carefully §B.6 of UPS 411.104 . All 11 criteria outlined in the UPS must be addressed.

All applicable University Policy Statements (UPSs) are to be implemented, including, but not limited to UPS 300.004, Policy on Course Outlines; UPS 300.005, Final Examinations; UPS 300.021, Academic Dishonesty; UPS 320.005, Retention of Student Work; UPS 411.100, Curriculum Guidelines and Procedures: Courses; UPS 411.104 Policy on Online Instruction; UPS 411.201, General Education: Goals for Student Learning.

Faculty Ownership

In accordance with UPS 411.104: "Faculty shall have the same control and ownership of the substantive and intellectual content of their online instruction course-related materials that faculty have with respect to classes offered in classroom format, at the time of production, at any time during their use, and thereafter."

Technology Training & Assistance

In order to safeguard quality of instruction and delivery of content, faculty and students must have access to expert technical support, and faculty must be given adequate lead time to prepare an online course.

Delivery

Faculty are encouraged to employ a variety of pedagogical approaches to online learning in each course, such as multimedia, discussion boards, videos, audio-visual presentations (Camtasia, Captivate, etc.), and web projects.

Class Size

All rules, regulations, and policies regarding workloads and class sizes apply equally to online and face to face courses.

Faculty Presence

Teaching online does not relieve faculty members from traditional obligations to the campus community, such as on-campus department, college, and university committee meetings and events.
