Some sections of courses are restricted to students in a particular college. Most often, this affects graduate students who are pursuing a degree in one college that uses coursework from another college Some sections of courses are restricted to students who are pursuing a particular degree.
Students should contact either the instructor or the department involved for information on obtaining an override. Overrides are NOT available from the Newnan LSA Academic Advising Center or the Academic Standards Board.
This procedure allows a student to register for a course they are otherwise restricted from enrolling in. Type "SFASRPO" into the Direct Access box on Banner's General Menu screen in order to access the Student Restriction Permit-Override Form. Fill in the ID and Term boxes.
See the instructions below to grant a Major registration override. On the Student/Advisee ID Selection page, enter student’s BID OR last and first name. On the Registration Override page under Override select Major. Under Course, select the course for which you are granting the override.
Override Residential College – use when a student is being allowed to register for a course that is restricted to a residential college to which they are not a member. (Used only for CTIS and CDOD courses.)
Override Co-Requisite – use when a student is being allowed into a course without being registered for the required co-requisite course. Override Degree Restriction – use when a course is restricted to students in a specific degree program.
After the registration restriction override is submitted, the student will receive an automated email letting the student know that the override has been added to the student's account for that specific course. The student can then log into ESTHER and add the course (during the open registration period).
Override Level Restriction – use when an undergraduate student is being allowed to register for a course restricted to graduate students, and vice versa.
Override Classification Restriction – use when a course is restricted to a specific classification of student such as freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.
Override Department Restriction – use when a student is being allowed into a course restricted to majors within a specific department. Override Duplicate Course – use when a student is being allowed to register for the same course more than once in a semester.
Override Mutually Exclusive – use when a student is being allowed to register for a course which the department has blocked because the student has a similar course in academic history and the department does not want a student to receive credit for both. NOTE: When granting this Override, the student will ultimately receive credit for both courses.
Course override is the process of receiving prior approval from the department to register for a specific course. Please note: you will need to register for the course through your Owl Express once the override is approved.
Overrides: Email Mrs. Rhonda Nemeth at [email protected] from your KSU student email. For repeat overrides, please include your KSU ID number, the course you’re trying to repeat (ENGL 1102), the semester you would like to take it, as well as a brief explanation of why you didn’t pass in previous attempts and why this attempt will be different (about 3-5 sentences).
If you must send an email to request an override, always be sure to include your name, student ID#, your major, the specific course you are requesting the override for, and a brief justification for the request in your message.
Transfer students please note: you may need to submit an override request form each semester if your transfer course is counting as a prerequisite.
This number is determined by the department offering the course. Classes that reach enrollment capacity during registration will be listed as “closed.” On occasion, classes reopen if a department raises the enrollment capacity of the course and/or adds additional sections.
The specific procedures vary from one department to the next and may vary for courses within a department. Waitlists may be administered through Wolverine Access, by departments, or by the individual instructors.
By giving students permission to enter a closed class or restricted courses with an override, those students can then enroll through Wolverine Access.
A student may register for a closed class only by obtaining an override (a permission entered in M-Pathways) for that class. Students obtain overrides from the department. Please refer to the section on “Overrides” located below and check with your department regarding the procedures for granting overrides.
The override to be given is called REPEAT HRS.
Matriculated (Degree-Seeking) students: This status message indicates that enrolling in this course would give a student more than 19 hours of credit. In order to enroll in more than 19 hours in a semester, the students must see their department secretary to request an override to enroll in more than 19 hours.
This status message indicates that the course in which a student is trying to enroll is restricted to a certain class (e.g. Freshman, Senior, etc.) and the student's class as recorded in the Banner system does not permit to enroll in the course. See the instructions below to grant a Class registration override.

Non-Degree Seeking students: This status message indicates that enrolling in this course would give a student more than 11 hours of credit. In order to enroll in more than 11 hours in a semester, the student must get approval from the Assistant to the Dean for Academic Standards and Intervention who will determine if the student may enroll in more than 11 hours.
Banner will stop students from registering from two courses that are being offered at the same day/time or from registering from a section that starts at the same time a course the students have already registered for ends (for example: you are registered for CWP101
Topics Courses: If a student needs to register for two sections of a Topics Course , he or she will need to request an override to allow to register in two sections of a course with same subject and number. See the instructions below to grant a Duplicate registration override.
A registration override indicates that you have given permission for a student to bypass certain enrollment restrictions that would otherwise prevent the student from registering for your course. After issuing an override, it is still necessary for the student to register him/herself into the course.
Select the term and click “Submit.”. Enter the student’s GNumber and click “Submit.”. If you do not know the student’s Gnumber, you may search by entering the student’s first and/or last names in the appropriate boxes and select a search type.
NOTE: Overrides cannot be deleted in Patriot Web; if you wish to revoke an override, you must contact your department to have it deleted in the Banner system.
Mathematics: 100-level math courses may not be overridden by instructors—direct students to the Mathematics Department to obtain an override.
School of Business: courses may not be overridden by instructors—direct students to the School of Business’ Office of Academic and Career Services to obtain an override for Business courses.
Before you begin, you must check with your department administrator to determine which , if any, overrides can be issued for courses in that department. Some departments may have paper force-add forms that instructors may sign. Paper Force-Adds must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar by the last day to add for processing.
