No more than two reserve items per course may be charged out to a single borrower at one time. (Exception: book sets, or items comprised of several pieces that must be used together).

Copyright Compliance

The FGCU Library determines copyright compliance based on the Guidelines for Classroom Copying agreed to by the Association of American Publishers and the Author’s League of America. The purpose of the guidelines is to state the minimum standards of educational fair use under Section 107 of H.R. 2223.

Copyright Permission

Library Services will obtain copyright permissions, and pay reasonable royalty fees for items placed in the Reserve Collection. The Library uses the online service of the Copyright Clearance Center to obtain the majority of the copyright permissions.

What is the Music Library?

The Music Library provides access to sound and video recording reserves on and off campus through Avalon, our audio and video streaming platform. All audio reserve requests from our physical collections will be placed on the streaming server, unless you are using a published anthology (which will only be available as a traditional reserve in the Music Library and Bill Schurk Sound Archives because of copyright limitations). Alma’s course reserve functionality is fully integrated and uses the same user and bibliographic databases as the rest of the system. Additionally, Alma provides searching of both bibliographic records and course reserve information in a single interface for library staff, and through a common discovery interface, such as Primo, for end users.

Courses may be imported into Alma in batch by a course loader that accepts a file of courses. The loader may be used to update certain elements of the course information such as the number of participants. The loader may also be used to create new courses based on older descriptions.

Dedicated workflows facilitate the temporary change of item information for physical copies that have been moved to a reserved area. Courses contain start and end dates for the course. The course and the reading lists that are part of the course will be activated and deactivated automatically based on the course dates. They can also be activated or deactivated manually.

Alma provides the ability to easily create and delete temporary records for reserve purposes. To add a brief record to a reading list, the staff operator simply needs to choose the option to “Add Brief” in the citations tab of the reserves list.

Reading lists can be searched and sets created using the standard Alma repository search functions.
