Homogeneous Group. A group in which members have a great deal of similarity. Work Group Team Goal. A future state of affairs desired by enough members to motivate the group to work toward its achievement.
Healthy Group. A group formed around a constructive purpose and characterized by ethical goals, interdependence, cohesiveness, productive norms, accountability, and synergy. Interdependent Group. A group in which members rely on each other's skills and knowledge to accomplish the group goals. Cohesiveness.
The initial stage of the groups development characterized by orientation, testing, and dependence. Storming. The Stage of the group development characterized by conflict and power play as members seek to have their ideas accepted and to find their place within the group's power structure. Norming.
A task role that gives information or opinions to provide content for discussion. People who perform this role are well informed on the content of the task. Seeker. A task role that probes others for ideas and opinions during group meetings.
A maintenance role that includes impartial arbiters who guide the discussion to help find mutually acceptable resolution. Tension Relievers. A maintenance role that recognize when group members are stressed or tired and intervene to relieve the stress and re-energize the group, usually through humor.
Logistics Coordinators. A procedural role that arrange for appropriate spaces for group meetings, procure the supplies and equipment needed, and manage other details to meet the groups physical needs. Expediters. A procedural role that keeps track of the group's objectives and help move the group through the agenda.
