Course Descriptions The most common reason for requesting a course description would be to provide the description to another academic institution in order to determine course equivalency. Descriptions of current and previous courses at UCI can be obtained by accessing the UCI General Catalogue for the appropriate year and using the print feature.
The UCI Academic Senate, which governs academic regulations at UC Irvine, has authorized adjustments to existing undergraduate regulations on Pass/Not Pass grades (P/NP) for the Fall 2020 quarter , as follows: All undergraduate courses will offer P/NP grading as an option.
For all classes at UCI, you may repeat only if your most recent grade was C- or below. For the first 16 units you repeat, the new grade replaces the old grade in the calculation of your GPA (even if the new grade is lower). The old grade still shows up on your UCI transcript, but it no longer affects your UC GPA.
If you have any questions about your Degree Audit, please email us or come see us. [email protected] or RH 134. You can also view your degree checksheet for more great info. Do I have to officially declare my minor?
UC Irvine operates on the quarter system and therefore all course credits are listed in quarter units.
minimum of 12 units per quarter You must register and complete 12 units to maintain full-time status. Full-time status is required each quarter if you live on campus, have financial aid, for certain scholarships, or are a UCI athlete.
Generally, an undergraduate student may not enroll in more than 20 units or fewer than 12 units of course work during a given quarter without the permission of the student's academic dean or, for undecided/undeclared students, the Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education.
If you wish to withdraw from a quarter for which you have already paid fees or enrolled in classes, you must log onto your StudentAccess account, click on the "Applications" tab, and select "Withdrawal" to submit a request. Your request will be reviewed by our office and processed by the Registrar's Office.
Generally, you'll want to take either 3 or 4 main academic classes each quarter, depending on what they are. 1-2 unit courses are excellent ways to explore, but piling up too many can complicate your schedule. 12-15 units is ideal for your first quarter.
A "C" grade or higher is needed to "Pass" and receive credit. If a course is taken for a Letter Grade, you only need a "D-" to receive credit (with the exception of Writing courses, which require at least a "C" to fulfill the requirement).
Part-time graduates may enroll in eight units or less.
Course Load Limits An undergraduate may enroll in as few as 12 units or as many as 20 units. To enroll for more than 20 units or fewer than 12 units, students must obtain the authorization of their dean or, for undecided/undeclared students, the Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education.
Students wishing to take more than 20 units in an academic quarter must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 and a previous quarter Grade Point Average of 3.5 in twelve (12) graded units. No exceptions are granted regardless of reason.
4Average GPA: 4 The average GPA at UC Irvine is 4.
The university has a tuition refund policy that stipulates the amount of tuition and fees that are refunded to a student who withdraws from all classes during a term. This policy is published by the University Registrar and is available from www.reg.uci.edu/enrollment/withdrawals/#refunds.
There is a $3 fee for all transactions made after the 3rd week of classes. If permitted to drop a class after the 6th week, a W will be recorded on your transcript.
More than 90% of the University courses are being taught in-person for Winter 2022. ESS 15 is the only course being offered online. All major courses will be taught in-person.
ESS will not allow students to register for courses with conflicting times in Winter 2022, even if the other course is asynchronous.
The correct prereqs are posted on the Schedule of Classes. If you’re off-sequence from changing your major, email [email protected] to request prerequisite exceptions. Note, it would be an exception, it is not a guarantee.
Students in the Earth & Atmospheric Science minor that meet prerequisites, can email [email protected] to bypass major restrictions for their ESS electives.
