How do I publish a course? If you have permission to publish your course, you can publish your course from the Dashboard, the Course Home Page sidebar, the Course Settings sidebar, or the Course Setup Checklist. You must publish a course before students can access it and its contents.
When first created, Canvas courses are not published, meaning that they are unavailable for students to view. Instructors can utilize the time when a course is initially not published to set up their course for the semester.
When you first view a Canvas course the course status will appear in upper right column. On the course home click the Publish button. Once the course is published the publish button will turn green and word publish will change to published.
Before an instructor can send emails through the Canvas Inbox tool, which sends students an email notification to their Georgetown email inbox, make sure your course is published. Canvas will however allow instructors to send emails to TAs and other instructors when a course is unpublished– just not students.

The Canvas course site is not yet published by the instructor. A course site isn't visible to students until the instructor manually publishes the Canvas site. Courses under the Past Enrollments heading are courses that have concluded but are still available as a read-only archived course. Prior users can view course material and grades but cannot submit any assignments.

If your Courses list does not display your course, talk to your instructor or your institution's Canvas Admin for assistance.
After you have manually favorited at least one course, Canvas automatically favorites any new published course enrollments for you.
The Settings link in your course navigation allows instructors to modify the course details that affect visibility and availability for a Canvas course site. Depending on your role in a course, some settings may not be available to you. This article assumes you have a teacher (full-editing) role and are teaching a for-credit course.
Recommendation: Set the end date to be the last day you would like the course to be active. Students can only participate in the course between these dates: Instructors may opt to automatically set their course to a read-only state when students are accessing the course outside of the course start and end dates.
Instructors can enable self-enrollment that allows students to enroll themselves in your Canvas course site. This does not affect registration in Rutgers student information systems such as Banner or REGIS. Instructors and academic programs may benefit by including a self-enrollable course in the Public Course Index.
