Customizing Your Canvas Course Navigation Menu
The Course Navigation next to the Canvas global navigation bar creates a Menu for your students, creating links that allow them to move among the different parts of your course. In most cases, headings in black text indicate links that are enabled for students.
For both you and your students, the course navigation menu is your means of finding your way around your Canvas course site. However, the menu may not look the same for you and your students. When you view the course navigation menu of a site in which you are an instructor, you will note that some links are black, while others are light gray.
If you disable the Course Navigation link for an external tool, the link no longer displays in your Course Navigation list. If the course navigation link for the page is disabled and hidden from students, the Student View button does not display. In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
Announcements can also be set up to show up in your home page. If you leave it on in your course, students will also see notifications for new Announcements on the Canvas dashboard course tile. See more information on the Announcement Tool.
To begin adjusting your course navigation menu, click on Settings in the course navigation menu, and choose the Navigation tab at the top. 2. You will see two lists of menu items. Items in the top list are enabled and visible to students; items in the bottom list are hidden and invisible to students.

At any point, if you want to re-enable a section, return to Course Settings, scroll down to the bottom of the screen, click on the three dots, and click Enable.
