If you need to remove an announcement from your course, you can easily delete it in Canvas. Open Announcements In Course Navigation, click the Announcements link. Delete in Announcements Page To delete an announcement from the index page, locate the announcement. Click the Options icon and click the Delete link.

You can manage notification settings for your Canvas account and/or for individual courses. To manage notification settings for an individual course, click the Settings for drop-down menu [1]. Then click the course name [2].
Unfortunately, we don’t delete courses from Canvas. We recommend unpublishing the course or simply following the directions above to remove it from your Dashboard.
Alternatively, you can access course notifications from the Course Home Page by clicking the View Course Notifications button. A banner displays stating course-level notification settings apply override any account-level notifications you may have set [1].
The Canvas dashboard is dynamic with the term dates. Your course will appear based on your status for the course. Below are those conditions. However, errors do occur which may prevent a course from automatically appearing on your dashboard. Please note that removing a course from your dashboard does not drop you out of the course.
Course notifications are enabled by default. In the Course Notification Settings page, users can choose to disable notifications for the course by clicking the View Course Notifications button and then on the resulting screen, clicking the green check next to Enable Notifications.

Editing an Announcement After the announcement has been sent, it is not possible to recall or edit the copy of the message students will receive via email. The message can be edited within Canvas however. Consider sending a follow up announcement to clarify incorrect information.

On the Global Navigation Menu select Account, and then select Settings. In Account Settings check the box for Conversations Inbox Opt-out. The change is automatically applied.
Once you delete a course, the course will be completely removed from your institution's account and will not be viewable by you, prior students, or the account administrator.
Deleting a course is a course permission for manually created courses only. If the Permanently Delete this Course button does not appear in Course Settings and your course was not generated through a student information system (SIS), this setting has been restricted for your course. If you are an instructor, contact your admin for assistance.
Administrators can restore deleted courses if they know the Course ID number. You can locate your Course ID number at the end of your course URL (i.e. canvas.instructure.com/courses/XXXXXX).

Students: You courses will appear on your Dashboard when two conditions are met. One, the course has been published by your instructor. Two, the term has started. Your instructor can make the course available early by changing the course dates.
If there are no gold stars then Canvas will display all courses listed within above the Past Enrollments section.
In addition, Canvas includes tools tips to describe certain thing on the screen. Hovering your mouse over the stars will tell you why you can or cannot star a course.
Only your current courses can be added or removed from your Dashboard. The list of those courses appear above Past Enrollments. Any courses from Past Enrollments and below can not be starred.
Instructors: Due to frequent requests, Canvas course shells automatically appear on instructor’s dashboards several terms before they begin. Course shells can be hidden from the dashboard as desired using the instructions below.
Submission Comments: these are assignment submission comments entered by your students. These notifications may include some context, but often do not. To ensure that you receive these submission comments, we recommend that you use the email notification setting below. If you have more students than you can keep track of with these submission comments, we recommend communicating to your students that they should email you directly rather than using a submission comment to ask a question about their grade. This way, students will need to provide you with appropriate context for their question/concern regarding the assignment in question.

These settings are applied to all courses and organizations across Canvas; you cannot adjust notification settings for an individual course or organization.
If there is a Canvas organization or an old class that you no longer want to receive notifications from, you can disable all notifications for that course or organization. We do not recommend switching off notifications for any courses that you are currently taking otherwise you may miss important information from your instructors.
When the bell on the View Course Notifications icon has a slash through it, that means the user has disabled notifications for this course and they will no longer receive emails about course activities.
