How Long is a California Guard Card Good For? For licensed security guards in California, your security guard registration is valid for two years. However, you need to complete an annual eight hour refresher course in order to continue to maintain your registration.

To renew online, go to the CA State License Registration website, at https://www.breeze.ca.gov and log in.
The California guard card can be renewed if it has not been expired for more than 60 days with a payment of $65.00. If your guard card has been expired for more than 60 days you would need to repeat the entire guard training and licensing process before being issued a new permit.
You can still renew your guard card up to 60 days after the expiration date, but the fee increases to $65. If you don't include the applicable delinquency fee with your application, your renewal will be delayed.
At the end of two years, if you do not renew your card, you will no longer be a licensed security guard within the state of California. You should renew prior to the expiration date on your card if you wish to keep your license valid.

Crimes of violence and felonies automatically disqualify you from applying to be a security guard in the State of California.
