Current students may request that their transcript order be held until grades and/or degrees for the current semester are posted to the transcript. Hold for grade requests will be processed for most schools and colleges approximately two weeks after the last day of final exams.

Non-attendance does not constitute an official drop. The student is responsible for taking action to officially drop a course. However, the instructor reserves the right to initiate an administrative drop for any student who does not attend the first week of the semester. Do not use this process if you are dropping a mini-course, there is a separate Mini-Course Late Drop Form, which is also available online or in 1255 Angell Hall. Poor academic performance is not an acceptable reason for a late drop during Period III.
After the last day of classes, any request for a drop or add requires a petition for a retroactive change to the transcript. Approval of retroactive requests is extremely rare. You must present documentation of extraordinary circumstances and you must be able to provide evidence that you were unable to request the add or drop during the semester. The blue ribbon symbol is assurance that the digital certificate is valid, the document is authentic, and the contents of the transcript have not been altered. If the transcript does not display a valid certification and signature message, reject the transcript immediately.

During the Fall and Winter terms, you have until the end of the third week of class to add a class; before doing so it's important to talk to the instructor to ensure you can get caught up on whatever work you may have already missed.
Since there are a variety of legitimate reasons for withdrawing from a course, a W is neutral and simply indicates that you withdrew from a class after the early drop period.
One or even two W's probably won't make much of a difference. If you have a large number, however, graduate admissions officers may assume that you must have dropped because you were anticipating a bad grade and judge accordingly. Graduate schools, like employers, also like to know that you can finish the work that you take on.
