As the exam is done at a Pearson Vue testing site, you will need to schedule with the testing center once your application is approved by the BACB. Unlike the other BACB exams, the RBT exam is available on a continuous basis, including on Saturdays.
The RBT certification exam consists of a series of multiple-choice questions that test your knowledge of ABA terminology and theory. It closely aligns to items on the task list, therefore, after completing your 40-hour training you should be well prepared for it.
RBTs are only eligible to become registered in the first place because they meet the high standards for earning the credential set by the BACB. Those standards include meeting basic education and age requirements and submitting to a background check, before passing a competency assessment.

The multiple-choice questions are designed to help you remember terms and concepts that are on the BACB's RBT Task List. Our practice exam can be taken at any time and as many times as needed from any Internet-connected device. It is not timed but keep in mind the actual exam takes 90 minutes to complete.
What happens after I pass the RBT exam? You will receive a pass/fail report at the test center and a follow-up confirmation email from BACB of your passing status. Additionally, your name will appear in the RBT Registry a week after passing the test.

Is the RBT Exam Hard? The RBT exam is hard if you don't study for it! But if you pay attention during your required 40-hour training course, and if you have picked a qualifying program that covers all the right categories and skills, you should have no problem at all passing the RBT exam.
Historical RBT Examination Results You will be notified of your results at the testing site as soon as you complete the examination. The BACB will confirm your results via email, and they will appear in your BACB account within approximately one week of completing the examination.

I'm curious because we see a lot of anti-ABA sentiments online and a lot of technician horror stories in this subreddit. I know my training hasn't been perfect and I know I have had to teach technicians to unlearn bad habits (e.g. overcorrection is a punishment procedure). Just curious what BCBAs had to unlearn from their mentors or trainers.

Like everything else these days, RBT applications are filed online. You’ll need to create an account on the BACB website, which is completely free of charge. The RBT certification application will cost you $50.
The competency assessment can take anywhere from 1 1/2-3 hours or longer depending on your personal understanding of the topics in the assessment. Visit the BACB website and download the most current version of the initial competency assessment. This allows you to ensure you understand the material in the assessment.
The assessment consists of 20 items that must be demonstrated to competency. Although some of the skills can be demonstrated through role play and interview, many of the items must be demonstrated with a client (an adult or child).
It’s not a matter of if you will pass the assessment, but a matter of how long it will take you to master the material. Although you must demonstrate each skill on the assessment, the BCBA will help you sufficiently understand the material to reach competency and demonstrate the skill.
