A change of location is a relocation of an existing accredited entity and any approved additional locations within the same general geographic area. ACCET considers an “accredited entity” to be a composite of the school’s administration, faculty, curricula, policies/procedures, student support systems, including the student body itself. If an accredited entity is simply relocating down the street to a new/different building with the same staff, curriculum, policies/procedures, etc., ACCET views this as a change of location within the same general geographic area and requires completion of this application. However, if the accredited entity closes in one location and reopens in a new location outside the general geographic area of the accredited entity which requires substantial changes in the components of the accredited entity, ACCET considers this a campus closing and refers the institution to Document 32 – Closing/Teachout Policy.
A major revision is defined at any change to clock or credit hours, whether an increase or a decrease, of greater than 20% of the approved length. Other major revisions include clock-to-credit conversions and the addition of an externship. A minor revision is any change to clock or credit hours of 20% or less of the approved length. For a major revision, the application must be reviewed by a subject matter specialist. Upon satisfactory review by the specialist, the Program Review Committee will consider the program application for final approval. For a minor revision, the institution is permitted to make the change upon ACCET’s receipt of the notification, and the institution will be provided a letter acknowledging the change and its effective date (date of receipt of the notification).
Branch: A full-service facility, geographically apart from, but under the direction of the main campus, at which complete continuing education and training programs are offered. A branch operates under the same ownership/authority and administrative policies and procedures as the accredited main campus, but has comprehensive on-site administrative and support services including its own faculty, administrative or supervisory organization, and its own budget.

Attendance at an accreditation workshop by a member of the institution is a requirement for those undergoing initial accreditation and for accredited institutions that are in a reaccreditation cycle. During initial accreditaion, the applicant cannot attend a workshop until the Initial Inquiry has been approved.
It is recommended that the applicant attend prior to the submission of the Application for Accreditation, and required that they attend before the ASER is submitted. Institutions that are undergoing reaccreditation must send a representative from that institution to a workshop prior to the submission of their ASER.
Programmatic accreditation is offered by some agencies recognized by the U.S.D.E. ACCET does not offer programmatic accreditation to its members; however, institutions accredited by ACCET may offer programs that have programmatic accreditation through another accrediting agency.
To be eligible to serve as a team evaluator, an individual must have the necessary relevant experience and expertise as well as the appropriate training and/or experience in evaluating institutions and/or their programs to effectively serve as an objective team evaluator. ACCET will assess the subject matter expertise of candidates based on a review of their resumes, professional recommendations, and/or previous team evaluator experience. Prior to participating on an on-site visit, a new team evaluator must have: (1) attended a Team Evaluator Workshop, and/or (2) completed ACCET’s online evaluator training. To ensure the objectivity of evaluators, the Commission Representative organizing the on-site visit will verify that all potential team evaluators have no conflicts of interest with the institution to be visited, including providing the institution the opportunity to reject team evaluators based on conflict of interest, as previously described.
The number and composition of team members required for on-site visits is determined by ACCET with the provision that professional judgment be utilized to ensure the appropriate size and composition based upon the pertinent circumstances. Some of the factors considered in determining the number and composition of the team include size of the institution, number of students, type of programs offered, and the need for translators. Typically, on-site teams to institutions seeking initial accreditation or reaccreditation will be composed, at a minimum, of the following:
The on-site team visit is the focal point of the accreditation process. Over the period of two days, the team works to validate the written ASER/BASER, to provide the Commission with an objective “snapshot” of the institution represented in a written report from which a verbal overview will be given as an exit briefing.
Commission Representative – The Commission Representative is employed by ACCET and is assigned the responsibility of monitoring and facilitating the integrity and comprehensiveness of the on-site evaluation process. This individual is well versed with ACCET's standards, policies, and procedures and serves as an overall resource for the team in reviewing various operational elements. The Commission Representative will work closely with the Team Chair to assure that all of the areas of examination are covered and that consistency, thoroughness, and fairness are maintained both during the visit and in the preparation of the on-site evaluation team report. The Commission Representative serves as a member of the team.
