What are the biggest hurdles to launch an online course?

Creating an online course is an emotionally draining endeavor. There will be moments of sheer frustration as you struggle to get your technical systems to work. There will be moments of absolute joy as sales come in. There will be moments of sadness after you sell no enrollments on a webinar. There will be moments of satisfaction, pride and ...

Should you model your launch based on someone else’s course?

Most online courses (and yes, this includes the ones that go on to make 6 and 7-figures in the not too distant future), do NOT make 6 figures in their first launch. They DO stuff quite a few things up. But they know that putting in the time to create their online course properly, to grow, to learn and to perfect both it and how it is marketed ...

Step 1: create an amazing sales page

We know that you still have not made any profit, but we advise you to invest a little money into hiring a graphic designer to create your sales page for you. However, if you would rather create it yourself, you can use the following free resources: Instapage, GetResponse, and MailChimp.

Step 2: set up your payment and registration methods

The other two important components of your sales page are your payment and registration methods. People should be able to easily make payments electronically on your sales page. You can let them do this using tools such as PayPal, Woocommerce, Amazon Pay, 2CheckOut, etc.

Step 3: get the numbers right

What do we actually mean by this? Well, remember that this is your FIRST launch and you should not expect to make tons of money out of it. We want you to set realistic goals and to follow them so that you do not get disappointed from the beginning. You can use these two important formulas to help you set realistic expectations:

Step 4: pre-launch activities

During this phase your sales page is generally still not live. Here you can choose to use two different approaches depending on the size of your email list:

Step 5: launch

After you launch your course and your sales page is ready, you can send out your launch emails and activate your social media campaigns. The important thing to remember here is to create a launch calendar. As we saw from the formulas above, the percentage of people who will open your email is very low.

Step 6: evaluate results

Always evaluate your results after you launch a course. After all, this will make you aware of what you did well and where there is still room for improvement, and it will also help your next online course launch go smoother and be more successful! Some of the numbers you can look at to measure your results are:

What is a high value online course?

Embedding that final video into your course doesn't in any way signify that it is "finished". A true high-value online course is a flagship program of your business. You will be constantly working to improve the content and refresh the material so that it stays current. You will need to offer customer support to your students. You will need to solicit feedback from students about what needs improvement. You will need to seek new affiliates with whom you can partner to relaunch your course in the future. The bulk of the work might be over, but that doesn't mean it has ended.

Why do I become an infopreneur?

You became an infopreneur because you wanted to share your passion with others. You get excited about teaching your material through video. You like planning out your course modules. What you don't like doing is scheduling joint venture webinars with affiliates, contacting companies for bonus materials to include in your course, testing your technical systems, and analyzing your Facebook ad conversion rates. There is so much more that goes into the making of a profitable online course that has nothing to do with recording video, but these tasks can't be ignored just because you don't enjoy doing them.

Is it hard to write a video for an online course?

Frustratingly enough, recording all the video isn't even the most difficult part of creating an online course. Writing the copy for your sales page and other marketing materials is infinitely more difficult. It is the copy that gets people interested. It is the copy that converts prospects to students. It isn't easy, and it takes a long time. Even when you have finished writing it, you'll be making adjustments continually.

Is money renewable?

Money is renewable, you can always get more of it, even if it doesn’t always feel like it, but you can’t get back more time. Once you’ve spent it, it’s gone… and it continues on ceaselessly whether you want it to or not.

Is time a variable in business?

Time is a major variable in business. The reality is that most of the students who we work with don’t come because they had an idea for a course last week and now they’re ready to create a course using our proven system. Nope.

Is an online course a course without students?

Think about it though: An online course isn’t really an online course without students. So it’s not enough to just throw some information on a webpage with a buy now button and hope people will show up.

How long does it take to create a course?

Creating and selling a course takes time. Especially when you are new to the game and are still building an audience. At a minimum you need to take 90 days to focus only on building an audience and becoming an authority, but ideally you’d take much longer.

Can you create an online course without an audience?

Without an audience to sell to you really shouldn’t be creating an online course. First build an audience, so that you get to know them and what problem they’re facing. Then you can build a solution for their problem (e.g. your online course). Having an audience is really important, and being visible to your audience so that they get to know you, like you and trust you is absolutely vital for online course sales.
